Certificates
Certifications and competencies are related but distinct. A competency describes a skill and how well someone performs it. A certification is a formal credential — and unlike a competency level, it can expire.
EG Silverbucket keeps them separate so you can manage and view each on its own terms.
Where to Find Certifications
In Settings → Competencies, go to the Certificates tab. This lists all certifications in your environment, searchable by name, category, or organisation node. From here you can add, edit, or delete certifications using the Add Certificate button or the three-dot menu on any row.
Certifications also appear in the Categories tree alongside competencies, identifiable by the award icon on a yellow background.
Expiry Dates
When assigning a certification to a user, you can record an expiry date. Some certifications don't expire, so this field is optional. Where a date is recorded, the user's entry shows their expiry date rather than a proficiency level badge.
Assigning a Certification vs. a Competency
When you open the assignment dialog for a role or user, EG Silverbucket distinguishes between adding a competency and adding a certification. Selecting a certification prompts you for an expiry date where applicable. Selecting a competency prompts you to choose a proficiency level as before.
